A thought-provoking conference held as part of Movin’On and CIVA explored the future of mobility and the transformations already underway.
Did you know that in the United States, autonomous vehicles are already becoming part of everyday life? In San Francisco, Waymo now operates more than 1,000 robotaxis on public roads.
As Yves Maître and Yann Arnaud highlighted, the distinction between public and private transportation is gradually fading. The symbolic value traditionally associated with vehicle ownership (status, culture, social standing, etc.) is giving way to more flexible, practical, and user-centric mobility solutions that prioritize comfort, accessibility, and convenience.
Benjamin Beaudet, President of Beti, a European leader in automated shuttle and robotaxi operations, shared his observations from the United States, where autonomous mobility is rapidly expanding through major players such as Waymo, Zoox, and Nuro, supported by technology giants including Google and Amazon.
The service is not yet perfect—passenger drop-off points can still be improved, parking infrastructure requires further development, and operational logistics such as vehicle cleaning remain significant challenges. However, the demand is undeniable. As Anne-Marie Idrac, Chairwoman of France Logistique and Sanef Group, pointed out, national competitiveness and sovereignty will also depend on the development of autonomous and shared transportation systems.
Rural areas, where transportation options remain limited, along with the growing mobility needs of an aging population, clearly demonstrate the value of expanding automated and collective mobility solutions.
Europe may be slightly behind, but it is catching up quickly.
This transition will create thousands of new jobs—from technicians and engineers to operators and supervisors. At 5Discovery Virtual Learning, we are proud to contribute to this transformation through immersive learning technologies, designing XR and AI-powered training environments that help develop the skills needed for tomorrow’s mobility ecosystem faster and more effectively.
A special congratulations as well to our friends from the Moove Lab Mobility & Innovation accelerator at STATION F:
